It is a nice feeling to be secure about your life.. However, life is never secure and that is something everyone should understand. Although Cabot union employees lost their jobs most of them found peace, secured other jobs and moved on. The so called "bosses" at Cabot felt secure at the time they were stabbing the union workers in the back. The malice and intent to harm with personal attacks against the union employees only got them to the same place as union employees. All I say "was it worth it." and.................from what I understand the replacement workers, workers who went back, and bosses cannot even touch the quality of work that was once created at Cabot by dedicated Union Employees !!!
"What goes around comes around."
To the bosses recently fired, I say to you. Move on and learn from your mistakes. Think about what you have done. Remember integrity, ethics, compassion, dedication towards humanity is the only way to make it in this world.
For those who know what this means.
It is time for the "soup" to be consumed. When the soup is gone, justice will prevail. !!!! |

Cabot evacuated
By Brandie Kessler
BOYERTOWN — A rust-colored cloud was visible in the area of Cabot Supermetals’ Boyertown plant after a chemical reaction around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A press release from Cabot indicated the reaction happened during routine emissions testing, producing the visible air emission that contained nitrogen oxides.
Tim Knapp, safety, health and environmental manager at Cabot Supermetals, said employees at the plant were either in a shelter in place inside of the plant or evacuated to an “upwind assembly point” immediately following the incident.
Knapp said outside responders such as police and fire personnel notified people outside of the plant, such as residential neighbors on a portion of County Line Road, to shelter in place as a precaution.

The news release from Cabot indicated four workers who were in the immediate area of the reaction were being medically evaluated as a precautionary measure Wednesday. The release also indicated that air sampling in the area during the time of the incident picked up no detectable concentrations of air contaminants.
Knapp said downwind sampling of the air was done again about 30 minutes
after the incident and again the sampling came up with no detectible amount of air contaminants.
Both the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the Environmental Protection Agency were notified of the incident.
Knapp and Lynda Rebarchak, community relations coordinator with the DEP, said the reddish-orange emission could have been caused by an acid reaction between nitrogen oxides and the acid washes Cabot uses.
Knapp said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Rebarchak said notifying the DEP of an incident of this kind is mandatory and the department is expecting more detailed information about the incident to be reported to them by Cabot within the next five business days.
“They definitely complied with the air permit requirements by making this notification to us,” Rebarchak said. “They will follow up with a full, detailed, written notification within five working days.”
Immediately following the incident, portions of County Line Road, which runs through the middle of the Cabot plant, were closed to allow emergency responders access.
Douglass (Mont.) police were not releasing any information regarding the incident. A spokesperson for the department said all news releases regarding the incident must come from Cabot.

"Again Struggled"
Ken Burns sights high ore cost and an uncertain market for Supermetals struggles, but we the (former workers of Supermetals) know the real reason that this plant is struggling and will eventually go under.
The Supermetals Business again struggled with an uncertain market and high ore costs, and while its performance improved somewhat from the second quarter of 2007, it remained below expectations. When compared to the third quarter of 2006, the Business experienced significantly lower profitability driven by a 28% reduction in total tantalum volumes and lower pricing from the transition to market based sales that was completed in December 2006. Additionally, higher ore costs unfavorably impacted profitability when compared to the same period of 2006. Compared to the second quarter of 2007, profitability improved slightly as lower manufacturing spending and several one time expenses in the second quarter of 2007 that did not recur in the current quarter more than offset 8% lower volumes and an unfavorable product mix. |

Sometimes you hear things and wonder what is truth and what is not the truth. So that leaves you with speculation. Looking at all the stories about Cabot in the past few years I come to the conclusion about one truth. Cabot is a sinking ship and it is due to poor business practices, taking things personally and over all mis-management. It is also about deceit. Deceiving the public. When you read the article about the orange cloud a few weeks ago, Cabot spokesperson states that the orange cloud was not a threat to the community. First of all I was driving passed this orange cloud on route 100 and it looked threatening to me. Anything in the air with that magnitude has to be dangerous at some level. Now recently the paper states that indeed the cloud was hazardous. Now just with that story alone and others, how can the community trust this company. Cabot works with dangerous chemicals etc. and they constantly put the community at risk and cover up all occurrences. It worries me that the company is being run by people who do not "know" and "understand" the industry. And it it is run by deceit. What is up with that?
The last comment I would like to write: Is this truth or false. I heard this yesterday and not sure about the validity of the comment.
"Cabot has decided to sell Cabot Supermetals"
If this is true. I have one thing to say. Thank you God!! |

Haven't heard about Cabot Supermetals getting sold, however we all agree that just punishment will hit all involved with taking hard working men and womens jobs away.
To the men who built Cabot up from the swamps-I say keep moving on.
To the scabs and the Cabot management I say what a disgrace you are. |

It has come to my attention that both Frank. M and Gladdys. W have benn offered a settlement in the Age Discriminatin case.
I then heard that he was told to keep the offer quiet.
I was told that only those whose names were on the original charge were a part of the law suite. It is my recommendation that you contact Steve Ross or Jim Bailey and ask for your name to be put on the law suit.
If I find any of this information is inaccurate I will post again and give you the updated information.

Cabot Creates What Matters?
What does Cabot create?
Pollution and environmental health hazards, for everyone working in the plant and the surrounding area!
How does Cabot feel about their workers and the environment? Lets look at an excerpt from their prospectus.
In 1986, Cabot sold a manufacturing facility in Reading, Pennsylvania to NGK Metals, Inc. (“NGK”). In doing so, Cabot agreed to share with NGK the costs of certain environmental remediation of the Reading plant site. After the sale, the EPA issued an order to NGK requiring it to address soil and groundwater contamination at the site. Remediation activities at the Reading property are ongoing and they are contributing to the costs associated with certain of those activities pursuant to the cost-sharing agreement with NGK. During the summer of 1998, Cabot joined a group of companies in forming the Ashtabula River Cooperative Group (“ARCG”), which collectively agreed on an allocation for funding private party shares of a public/private partnership (the Ashtabula River Partnership (the “ARP”)), established to conduct navigational dredging and environmental restoration of the Ashtabula River (the “River”) in Ashtabula, Ohio. The ARP expects to obtain additional funding from the federal government for the project under either the Water Resources Development Act (“WRDA”) or the Great Lakes Legacy Act (“GLLA”). In September 1999, the ARP issued a Comprehensive Management Plan (“CMP”) which placed an initial estimate of $42million on the project. An updated cost estimate for the project of approximately $48million was released in 2002 by the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers as part of the WRDA process. Under the statutory formula available for funding this project under WRDA, approximately 65% of the project’s cost is to be borne by the federal government, leaving approximately 35% of the cost for non-federal participants. The State of Ohio has pledged a contribution of $7million to the project, which will reduce the cost to be borne by the non-federal participants. The ARCG expects to be asked to bear a substantial percentage of the remaining costs, of which Cabot expects to have a significant share. In addition, the RCG has received a notice of claim for natural resource damages related to the River and the amount of that claim remains to be negotiated with the Natural Resource Trustees. Cabot is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) on a draft Consent Order and Agreement to address their compliance with a new wastewater discharge permit at our Boyertown, Pennsylvania facility and the construction and operation of a new wastewater treatment facility at that location. The Final Consent Order and Agreement will likely include a civil penalty against Cabot to resolve both past and ongoing non-compliance with certain permit limits pending completion of the new wastewater treatment facility in 2007. Although the exact amount of that penalty has not yet been determined, it is not expected to be material in amount. Cabot is the holder of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (“NRC”) license for certain slag waste material deposited on industrial property on Tulpehocken Street in Reading, Pennsylvania in the late 1960s by a predecessor of Cabot that had leased a portion of the site to process tin slags. The slag material contains low levels of uranium and thorium, thus subjecting it to NRC jurisdiction. they have prepared a site decommissioning plan for the slag material which concludes that the levels of radioactivity in the slag are low enough that the material can be safely left in place and still meet NRC requirements for license termination without restrictions. the decommissioning plan proposing this in-place remedy was filed with the NRC in August 1998. The City of Reading and the Reading Redevelopment Authority (the “RRA”) filed requests for a hearing with the NRC concerning Cabot’s decommissioning plan, alleging various deficiencies with the plan. In October 2000, they reached an agreement with the City of Reading and the RRA to settle their claims. In July 2002, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) submitted comments to the NRC opposing the proposed decommissioning plan. they continue to work with the NRC to obtain approval of the decommissioning plan. The EPA has completed an investigation of certain areas surrounding Cabot’s Boyertown, Pennsylvania facility. The investigation was prompted by media reports of complaints by area farmers of health impacts and damage to livestock and crops allegedly associated with emissions from the Boyertown facility. In a report dated November 2000, EPA stated that increased concentrations of some elements in environmental media at locations near the Boyertown site did not pose a health threat to the broad community necessitating a cleanup action by the EPA. The EPA report concluded that EPA could find no relationship between industrial emissions and reported poor farm production and animal health concerns. Two neighboring farmers brought an action against Cabot in September 2001 in a state court in Pennsylvania alleging damage to their farms over a multi-year period. Cabot removed the suit to federal court, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and moved for summary judgment on statute of limitations grounds. In May 2004, the Court granted the motion and dismissed all of the farmers’ claims to the extent they arose from Cabot’s activities prior to November10, 1998. The farmers unilaterally dismissed their remaining claims in November 2004. The farmers filed an appeal of the limitations decision to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in November 2004. Cabot is a party to several pending actions in connection with its discontinued beryllium operations. Cabot entered the beryllium industry through an acquisition in 1978. They ceased manufacturing beryllium products at one of the acquired facilities in 1979, and the balance of the former beryllium business was sold to NGK Metals, Inc. in 1986. During the last several years, several individuals who have resided or worked for many years in the immediate vicinity of the former beryllium facility located in Reading, Pennsylvania have brought suits against Cabot and NGK for personal injury allegedly caused by beryllium particle emissions produced at that facility. In one such action brought in federal court they prevailed on statute of limitations grounds, and that decision is pending on appeal before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Eight other personal injury claims against Cabot are pending in state court in Pennsylvania. In addition, in October 2004 one case was filed in state court in Ohio. Discovery is ongoing in those cases. Since October 2003, approximately 55 individuals have asserted claims for medical monitoring now pending in numerous Pennsylvania state court actions. The plaintiffs allege contact with beryllium in various ways, including residence or employment in the area surrounding the Reading facility, employment at the Reading facility or contact with individuals who worked at the Reading facility. Discovery is underway in these cases. There are also five beryllium product liability cases pending in state courts, four of which are pending in California and one of which is pending in Florida. The four California cases are all stayed by court order pending the testing of the plaintiffs for beryllium exposure. Discovery is ongoing in the Florida action. In addition, with respect to the two product liability cases previously pending in state court in New York, one was dismissed during the fiscal year and one was settled in November 2004. In 2000, individuals who reside within a 6-mile zone surrounding the Reading facility filed a purported class action in Pennsylvania state court seeking the creation of a trust fund to pay for the medical monitoring of the surrounding resident population. Class certification was denied and the plaintiffs have appealed. they believe that they have valid defenses to all of these beryllium actions and will assert them vigorously in the various venues in which claims have been asserted. In addition, there is a contractual indemnification obligation running from NGK to Cabot in connection with many of these matters. Moreover, federal legislation that created a federally funded compensation scheme for beryllium workers injured or otherwise requiring medical screening or testing may affect certain of these pending beryllium cases.
So as you can clearly see that Cabot does not care about the enviroment and their workers, Cabot cares about money only.
The recent actions at the Boyertown plant and the resulting consequences appear below
Deaths attributed due to the recent actions
4 or more? Suicides? and Medical related deaths from exposure
To toxins within the plant?
Families and their lively hoods lost due to the deplorable and diabolical plan to remove the older work force and replace it with new less paid workers who do not even themselves deserve to live on the planet earth for what they have contributed too.
I pray to you my lord and master that the actions taken and carried out willfully and knowingly by the people responsible be righted and corrected. May all the responsible parties be brought lower then the lowest they have afflicted, may the see their children pass away before themselves, may their families reject them, and may all manner of pestilence, distress, despair and disease come upon them. Take all from them and give it to the ones they have afflicted. May their seed, and names be removed from the face of the earth, oh lord cast them into the pit with their master, so they may serve him (Satan) for time eternal as they have served him here on earth. Yes oh lord I pray this daily till death takes me. |
